Cody Cook didn’t plan to build a career in vegetation management. In fact, back in 2007, he was building something very different—high-end custom cabinets. But long hours on the road and a growing desire to stay closer to home made him start looking for something new. That’s when a conversation with a good friend changed everything. Lewis is like a family. Everyone’s approachable...
Cody recalls, “My buddy’s girlfriend’s father was working with Lewis back then. I had been venting about all the driving my cabinetry job required, and that’s when the opportunity came up -
at just the right moment. He said, ‘Why don’t you come work at Lewis? We’re right here.’” That conversation sparked an introduction, which marked the beginning of Cody’s 17-year career with Lewis Services.
Back then, Lewis was the new kid on the block in his area, and Cody admits it wasn’t an obvious choice. But what he found was something better than expected. “It didn’t feel like just another job. Right away, I saw how much opportunity there was if you were willing to work for it.”
Today, Cody is a Supervisor for Division 30, overseeing contracts across North and South Carolina. He’s built his own path, rising from groundman to crew lead to the role he holds now—all through hard work, mentorship, and a company that believes in promoting from within.
“There are three things that really set Lewis apart,” Cody says. “The safety culture, the benefits—especially the ESOP—and the growth potential. I've seen guys go from groundmen to general foremen in a few short years. It’s all possible here.”
But what matters most, Cody says, is the culture. “Lewis is like a family. Everyone’s approachable—from your crew to corporate. We help each other. We grow together.”
