After five years of learning, advancement, and a growing love for the work, Thomas stepped away from Lewis to take on a new challenge with a smaller contractor.

He hoped to help build their safety program and train new crews leveraging the foundation he’d built, but the lack of structure and support quickly made him appreciate what he had left behind. “At Lewis, safety is part of everything we do—it’s second nature. I thought all companies were like that, but I found out quickly they’re not.”
Thomas stayed in touch with former teammates and leaders like Pat Dolan and Marshall Pokorny, who were more than just industry colleagues. “With all the thousands of hours of working together, we have a bond. We get together outside of work too, and our kids are friends.” When the time felt right, he reached out. “Coming back was like coming home.” They knew my work ethic and welcomed me back with open arms,” he says. “Now I’m here to grow, lead, and help others develop the way Lewis helped me.”
Reflecting on what matters most, Thomas says it’s more than just pay or benefits. “Lewis truly cares about its people. I even took a pay cut to come back—because I knew it was the right long-term move. It’s not just about next week—it’s about the next year, the next ten. And through all of it, Lewis is always here.”
He adds, “If you’re not afraid of hard work and want to be part of a team that values you, Lewis is the place to be.” Each day, Thomas brings energy and perspective to the job. “It’s a great day to have a great day. Your attitude is one thing no one can take from you—and it sets the tone for everything we do.”
