From Stress to Success: Adam Luster’s Journey at Lewis Services

I don’t feel that stress when I call upper leadership. At Lewis, I know I’m supported.
Hard work and a thirst for growth helped Adam rise to General Foreperson. But after 20 years with two different companies, he realized something was missing.
“The culture just didn’t feel right,” Adam says. “I was stressing all the time, with no guidance. I thought—there’s got to be something better.” Encouraged by industry colleagues who had joined Lewis Services, Adam applied for a Safety Specialist position. “I decided I had nothing to lose.”
Nearly six years later, Adam is now an Operations Supervisor leading Lewis teams in Indiana and Michigan. He appreciates the supportive culture and accessible leadership. “I don’t feel that stress when I call upper leadership. At Lewis, I know I’m supported.”
One of the things that stands out most about Lewis for Adam is the company’s focus on safety. “When I came to Lewis as a Safety Specialist, I was shocked at the difference in the safety culture here. It wasn’t a knee-jerk reaction with automatic penalties when investigating an incident. It was, ‘Let’s dive into the context, find out what happened, and learn from it.’ We’d share those stories with employees to help prevent future incidents. It was a totally different approach, and I had to shift my mindset from blame to collaboration and learning.”
This February marks six years with Lewis, and Adam is “super excited” to become fully vested in the company’s Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) on his anniversary. “If you’re going to make this a career, why not work at a company that shares in the success? It’s not just leadership benefiting—it’s everybody.”
